They just wanted those sweet diversity points without actually understanding what diversity meant. They hired that guy because he made himself available and they didn't really give a crap about representing native cultures accurately in their program. All someone had to do was take US 1 out for a beautiful drive one day and meet some natives. There is a Chumash reservation no more than an hour's drive north of L.A. Because there aren't countless college professors who specialize in Native American cultural studies. Because the Bureau of Indian Affairs doesn't exist (a government institution that could put you in touch with any resource you'd need). Because it's not like reservations exist (the places where you could meet members of such tribes).
